The New Yorker shows what 80 years has done to the city
Video cameras in the 1930s were a novelty, not to mention a big commitment to carry around. Luckily there were those enthusiasts who filmed enough that we can look back today and see what has changed and what has stayed the same.
As you’d expect the city is a lot cleaner but a lot busier. The video takes a journey around various boroughs of New York. The music accompanying each borough is a counterpoint to the video. It shows the culture as it grew up in the years between the two videos. Hip Hop and Jazz and their place in New York take pride of place.
