A rare look at the illusive father of Anime
Hayao Miyazaki announced his retirement in 2013 after a career that saw him define Japanese animation. He’d seen the growth of computer animation and didn’t see a lot to love. All that changed after he retired once he took some time to look into how it worked for himself. It’s not hard to see where his fear came from, one of his first exposures to the inner working of CGI didn’t go too well.
Time seems to have healed those wounds. NHK World TV was there when Miyazaki made the transition from traditional animation to retirement to CGI. The film will release on June 3rd, check out the trailer below.
